Eureka Math Eureka Math connects math to the real world in ways that take the fear out of math and build student confidence—while helping students achieve true understanding lesson by lesson and year after year.
The team of teachers and mathematicians who wrote Eureka Math took great care to present mathematics in a logical progression from PK through Grade 12. This coherent approach allows teachers to know what incoming students already have learned and ensures that students are prepared for what comes next. When implemented faithfully, Eureka Math will dramatically reduce gaps in student learning, instill persistence in problem solving, and prepare students to understand advanced math. Words Their Way Words Their Way is a developmental spelling program which has students work with level-appropriate word sorts Students are given words to study in order to discover the common attributes. Students learn features by completing activities such as word sorting, word hunts, games and creating sentences. Language Arts This year we will be using the Schoolwide readers and writers workshop strategies. During Reading students will be given various skills, strategies, and tools to make meaning of and interact with text. Students will be exposed to a number of carefully selected mentor texts, shared texts, and other texts that are at their independent reading levels. Writing is a vital tool to be successful in life. The goal of Schoolwide’s writing workshop is to improve students’ writing by discussing why writers write and how to communicate ideas effectively. Science Our science series is published by Harcourt and it is a 2008 edition. The series is broken into three major science areas which are: Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science. The Life Science unit covers the topics of “Living Things in Our World” and “Living Things Interact”. In Earth Science we will learn about “Earth’s Land” and “Weather and Space”. In the final unit of Physical Science we will be “Investigating Energy and Matter” and “Exploring Forces”. There are many hands on activities for the students as well as opportunities for them to investigate topics at home. It will be an exciting year in science.
Social Studies Social Studies covers communities. We will be looking at the different sections of our country in relation to communities, as well as the history of the areas. The students will also be tested on the states and capitals of the four sections of the United States.
**Third grade curriculum alternates the study of Science and Social Studies. We will switch between the two subjects after completion of a unit of study.
